Sarah Maria Sun
Sarah Maria Sun was born in 1978 and began her vocal studies at the age of ten. She studied in Cologne with Klesie Kelly and in Stuttgart with Julia Hamari, as well as with Sybille Knappe and Darinka Segota. As well as Lieder and oratorio, her repertoire includes numerous contemporary works. From 2007 to 2014 she was first soprano in the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, one of the leading ensembles for contemporary music.
Much in demand as a soloist, she has performed with Sir Simon Rattle, Kent Nagano, Peter Rundel, Thomas Hengelbrock and Susanna Mälkki and with orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Berliner Philharmoniker, the NDR, SWR and WDR radio orchestra and ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Ensemble intercontemporain, musikFabrik Köln, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, ensemble recherche, the Sinfonietta Leipzig and the Arditti Quartet.
Sarah Maria Sun has performed at the Berlin State Opera, the opera houses in Düsseldorf, Dresden, Basel, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Mannheim and Stuttgart, the Paris Opéra, the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Musashino Civic Cultural Hall and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Philharmonie in Berlin and the Philharmonie in Cologne, as well as in Venice, Munich, Vienna, Witten and Donaueschingen.
