Daniil Trifonov is regarded as one of the most exciting pianists of the young generation. Born in Nizhny Novgorod in 1991, he studied the piano with Tatiana Zelikman at the Gnessin School of Music in Moscow and with Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He sprang to attention in 2011 when he won first prize at the International Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv and both first prize and the grand prix at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
During the 2015/16 season Daniil Trifonov is artist in residence (‘Capell virtuoso’) with the Staatskapelle Dresden. He has performed with the orchestra in Dresden and at the Royal Albert Hall in London. A tour with the Staatskapelle to Madrid, Paris and Vienna will follow in May. At the end of 2016 he made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Sir Simon Rattle.
Other engagements this season include concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic, recitals at the Barbican Centre in London, the Melbourne Recital Centre, in Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Florence, Madrid and Oslo and at Carnegie Hall in New York, as well as chamber concerts in Tanglewood, Verbier and Baden-Baden. Daniil Trifonov’s CD The Carnegie Recital received a Grammy nomination. In 2016 he was named artist of the year by Gramophone.
