Anja Harteros has been widely acclaimed for her performances in no fewer than ten principal roles in Verdi’s operas. Her performances as Puccini’s Tosca and Mimì, Wagner’s Eva, Elsa, Elisabeth and Sieglinde (in concert), Strauss’s Arabella and the Marschallin, Mozart’s the Countess, Fiordiligi, Donna Anna and Elettra, Handel’s Alcina and Weber’s Agathe have also gained an overwhelming response.
Anja Harteros is passionate about performing Lieder in recital and with orchestra. Several works can be found more than once in her discography, such as Verdi’s Requiem (under Pappano, Barenboim and Maazel), Strauss’s Four Last Songs (Luisi, Jansons and Thielemann) and Handel’s Alcina (Bolton and Minkowski). Her recording of La traviata under Mehta was nominated for a Grammy, her recording of the title role in Aida (Pappano) won many awards and her CD of songs Von ewiger Liebe won the Orphée d’Or.
Anja Harteros works with the most exciting conductors and directors of our time, performing in all the world’s important opera houses and concert halls, from Berlin to Munich, Vienna, London, Paris, New York, Boston, Tokyo, Milan, Oslo, Zurich, Rome, Amsterdam, Florence, Tel Aviv, Valencia and Copenhagen. She was given the title of Bavarian Kammersängerin in 2007, is a recipient of the Bavarian Europe Medal and was chosen as female singer of the year at the International Opera Awards in 2015.
