Easter Festival in autumn 2021
After long, detailed deliberations, Christian Thielemann, the Artistic Director of the Festival and Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden and Intendant Nikolaus Bachler have decided together with Govenor Wilfried Haslauer and Mayor Harald Preuner to move the Festival from the Easter weekend to the weekend of All Saints, 29 October to 1 November 2021. The precise programme will be made known in May 2021.
“Right up to today, we have been endeavouring with all the means at our disposal to ensure that the Festival will be able to take place at Easter 2021. We have twice changed our programme in order to adapt it to the expected situation with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic”, says Nikolaus Bachler. “However, it has now become clear that holding the Easter Festival in April will be impossible, given the current provisions of the federal government”.
“I believe that holding the Easter Festival in the autumn will also undoubtedly have a charm of its own. I hope that we can succeed in shifting the greater part of the Easter programme to late October”, says Christian Thielemann. “In any case, Salzburg will have a reunion with the Staatskapelle Dresden this autumn, in combination with top-class soloists”.
The detailed programme will be published in May 2021, along with information on how to purchase tickets. Tickets already bought for Easter 2021 will no longer be valid and will be rescinded. Those in possession of tickets may choose between a refund of the ticket price, placing the amount in question as credit in their customer account, or making a donation to the Osterfestspiele Salzburg GmbH. Reimbursements will be processed exclusively upon receipt of the appropriate request form. It is not necessary to return the original tickets.
The 2022 Salzburg Easter Festival will take place as usual from the Saturday before Palm Sunday to Easter Monday – thus from 9 to 18 April 2022. The programme will be made known at a later date.
