In the course of preparing the new production of Tosca planned for 2018, the Salzburg Easter Festival and the director and set designer Philipp Stölzl have together agreed not to continue their collaboration on this production. Philipp Stölzl had already enjoyed a great success at the 2015 Easter Festival with his production of Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci, and the Salzburg Easter Festival would like to thank him for his work.

The Salzburg Easter Festival is delighted to announce that it has now appointed the international director Michael Sturminger for its production of Tosca. Michael Sturminger was responsible for the successful production of Salvatore Sciarrino’s chamber opera Lohengrin at this year’s Easter Festival, and recently also took on the direction of the new production of Jedermann at the 2017 Salzburg Festival. As in the case of Sciarrino’s Lohengrin, the sets and costumes for Tosca will be designed by donmartin supersets (Renate Martin and Andreas Donhauser), whose artistic partnership with Sturminger is now of several years’ standing.

The Salzburg Easter Festival would like to express its warm thanks to Michael Sturminger, Renate Martin and Andreas Donhauser for taking on this production.
