There has been a change in the cast for the new production of Richard Wagner’s opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the 2019 Salzburg Easter Festival: Genia Kühmeier has been compelled to withdraw for private reasons. In her stead, the American soprano Jacquelyn Wagner will sing Eva – a role that she has already sung with great success at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Jacquelyn Wagner began her career as a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. Guest performances have taken this in-demand singer to many renowned houses, such as the Frankfurt Opera, the Semperoper Dresden, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the State Opera in Stuttgart, the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, the National Opera in Amsterdam, the Marseille Opéra and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Her most recent performances have included roles such as Alice (in Falstaff) at the Vlaamse Opera, Leonore (in Fidelio) at the St. Gallen Theatre, and the Feldmarschallin (in Der Rosenkavalier) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.

For the role of David, we have been able to engage the exceptional Sebastian Kohlhepp, one of the most successful German tenors of the younger generation today. His first engagement was at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, after which he was appointed a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera in the 2013/14 season, then of the State Opera in Stuttgart for the 2015–17 seasons. Guest performances have taken him to the Monte Carlo Opéra, the Theater an der Wien, the Volksoper in Vienna, the Basel Theatre and the Cologne Opera. Sebastian Kohlhepp gave his successful debut as Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Salzburg Mozart Week in 2018.
