Cast Change in the Choral Concert
Pavol Breslik has regrettably been compelled to cancel his participation in the Choral Concert at the 2019 Salzburg Easter Festival on account of illness. Tomislav Mužek has kindly agreed to sing the tenor solo in Antonín Dvořák’s Stabat Mater on both dates – 16 and 19 April.
Tomislav Mužek comes from Croatia. In 1999 he won First Prize at the International Ferruccio Tagliavini Competition in Deutschlandsberg. From 2000 to 2002 he was a member of the ensemble of the Bremen Opera, and in 2009/10 he was in the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera. From 2014 to 2016 he had a permanent engagement at the Semperoper Dresden, and since 2016 he has been a member of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. He has sung as a guest at houses including the Bavarian State Opera, the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, the Hamburg State Opera, the Volksoper in Vienna, La Scala Milan and the Opéra national de Paris.
In 2020, Tomislav Mužek will sing the role of Stolzing in Die Meistersinger at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, in the same production currently playing at the Salzburg Easter Festival that will later be shown in Tokyo as part of a co-production agreement.
Tomislav Mužek is also in demand in the concert hall and as a Lieder recitalist. He sang in Beethoven’s Missa solemnis under Bernard Haitink at the 2007 Salzburg Easter Festival.
