Schedule changes mean that Timo Riihonen has regrettably been compelled to withdraw from the role of Hans Foltz in the new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. In his place, the Russian bass Roman Astakhov will sing the role – one he has already performed in Salzburg, in the Meistersinger production of the 2013 Salzburg Festival. His other hitherto engagements have included Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Colline (La bohème), Daland (Der fliegende Holländer) and Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail).

Frank Peter Zimmermann – the celebrated violinist who this season is the Artist in Residence of the Staatskapelle Dresden – has decided to change his programme for the Concert for Salzburg. Instead of the Concerto for violin, strings and basso continuo in E major BWV 1042, he will perform the following two works, and direct them from the violin:

JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
Concerto for violin, strings and basso continuo BWV 1055 in A major
(generally known as a harpsichord concerto)

Concerto for violin, strings and basso continuo BWV 1056 in G minor
(generally known as a harpsichord concerto in F minor)

The remainder of the concert programme remains unaltered.
