Cynthia D. Sculco

Dear Friends,

I am very honored to be President of the American Friends of the Easter Festival. The 2018 Festival is going to be extraodinary. Every year the Salzburg Easter Festival has outstanding artists that offer the audience a level of musical excellence that is very hard to match anywhere in the world and this year is no exception.

This year the Festival will have a new production of Tosca with Aleksandrs Antoņenko as Cavaradossi and Anja Harteros in the title role. Those of us who attended our annual Gala in November at the Knickerbocker Club in New York City were treated to an outstanding recital by Mr Antoņenko, and I can attest that you will not want want to miss his performance in Tosca.

In addition to Tosca there will be three concerts including Mahler’s Third Symphony, Brahms’s Second Symphony and Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique.
As we have done in the past, the American Friends organization is sponsoring Professor Bryan Gilliam’s lecture during both cycles of the Festival. He will give his first lecture in the Patrons’ Lounge of the Grosses Festspielhaus on Tuesday March 27th at 11am on Mahler’ s Third Symphony. This will be followed by lunch at St Peter’s Restaurant, reputed to be the oldest restaurant in Europe, dating back to the early middle ages, and certainly one of the most atmospheric. During the second cycle, Professor Gilliam will be lecturing on Tosca on Saturday, March 31st at 10.30am, also be in the Patrons’ Lounge.

The always-popular American Friends Dinner will follow the concert on March 31st at St Peter’s Restaurant.

I wish to thank the Board as well as all of you, the American Friends of the Salzburg Easter Festival, and take this opportunity to remind you that our mission is to support and promote the Festival wherever your home may be. I hope you will continue to attend the Festival and support the artistry that is featured there.
I look forward to seeing you in Salzburg.

With best wishes,

Cynthia Sculco
