Dear Friends of the Salzburg Easter Festival,

I am very honored to be President of the American Friends of the Easter Festival. The 2019 Festival is going to be outstanding. Every year the Salzburg Easter Festival has prominent  artists that offer the audience a level of musical excellence that is very hard to match anywhere in the world and this year is no exception.

The Festival will be presenting Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg with Vitalij Kowaljow as Veit Pogner. This is going to be a performance not to be missed. Mr Kowaljow will be our guest artist on Tuesday, January 15th at the Knickerbocker Club for our annual benefit dinner. He is planning a wonderful concert for us including Verdi’s Fiesco from Simon Boccanegra and Wotan's Farewell from Wagner's Die Walküre among other selections. At the Salzburg Easter Festival, in addition to the opera there will be three concerts including Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Mahler’s 4th and Schubert's 9th. The entire program is available on this website.

This year the American Friends organization has invited Dr Clemens Hellsberg, former chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic to lecture on Meistersinger. The lecture for the second cycle will be at 11am on Monday, April 22nd. The always popular American Friends dinner will be held on Saturday, April 20th after the concert at St Peter’s Restaurant, reputed to be the oldest restaurant in Europe dating back to the middle ages. And certainly one of the most atmospheric. In addition we will have our cocktail receptions during intermissions in the Patrons’ Lounge.

I am very excited about the 2019 Festival and look forward to seeing many of you not only at our benefit but in Salzburg at the Festival. I wish to thank the Board as well as all of you our American Friends. It is our mission to support and promote the Festival wherever our home may be. Your continued support is vital for supporting the artistry that is featured in Salzburg.

With best wishes,

Cynthia Sculco
