Greeting from Cynthia D. Sculco, President of the American Friends of the Salzburg Easter Festival
Dear American Friends of the Salzburg Easter Festival,
I am very honored to be President of the American Friends of the Easter Festival. The 2020 Festival is going to be wonderful. I look forward to welcoming you at the Festival this April. The program this year continues to offer a level of musical excellence that is very hard to match anywhere in the world. Peter Ruzicka and Christian Thielemann have again planned an amazing program for 2020.
The opera this year is one of my favorites, Verdi’s Don Carlo conducted by Christian Thielemann. Yusif Eyvazov will sing Don Carlo and Anja Harteros will sing Elisabetta. It will be in four acts and there will be a new instrumental prologue. In addition, the Staatskapelle Dresden will perform Mahler’s 10th symphony with conductor Daniel Harding. There is the wonderful Beethoven violin concerto performed by Janine Jansen, the Karajan prize winner for 2020, and the choral work this year is Gurre-Lieder with outstanding soloists. Camilla Nylund, who is a highly celebrated soprano in Europe, will be singing Tove.
Camilla Nylund will be our guest artist for our Benefit on December 3rd. The event will take place at the Knickerbocker Club. Ms Nylund will perform for us accompanied by Thomas Lausmann. Ms Nylund is making her Metropolitan Opera debut in Der Rosenkavalier. This very special concert will be followed by dinner in the Library. This is an evening that you will not want to miss.
Dr Clemens Hellsberg, the former Chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra , will return again this year to lecture on Don Carlo.
The lecture will be at 10:30am on Saturday, April 11th in the Patrons’ Lounge. The always popular dinner will also be held on Saturday April 11th after the concert at the Goldener Hirsch. The famous hotel is now reopened after the renovation. It has not changed in terms of its atmosphere it is just been updated with added amenities.
We will also host our cocktail receptions in the Patrons’ Lounge during the intermissions.
I am very excited about the Festival this year and look forward to seeing many of you there. I also know I will see you at our Benefit in New York City on December 3rd.
I wish to thank the Board as well as all of you our American Friends. It is our mission to support the Festival wherever our home may be.
Your continued support is vital for supporting the artistry that is featured in Salzburg. I look forward to seeing you in New York and Salzburg.
With best wishes,
