The Association of Patrons: a Major Source of Support for the Salzburg Easter Festival
Since the very beginnings of the Salzburg Easter Festival in 1967, the Association of Patrons has made a significant financial contribution to the Festival budget. By joining the Association, its members confirm their idealistic and financial attachment to “their” Festival. They enjoy preferential treatment when ordering tickets, and other exclusive advantages too.
A Unique Financing Model
When he founded the Salzburg Easter Festival, Herbert von Karajan developed a very special system of patronage. By joining the Association of Patrons, you get a purchase option for subscriptions and ensure that you can keep your regular seats. Right from the start, this financing model enabled Karajan to hold the Easter Festival without recourse to any public subsidies. Today, the Festival still attains an exceptional self-financing ratio of 88%. Besides ticket sales, the abovementioned donations from Patrons and sponsoring monies are also of special significance.
A Long Tradition of Support
For 48 years now, the members of the Association of Patrons have been making a fundamental financial and idealistic contribution to maintaining the Salzburg Easter Festival. This enables this unique festival to uphold its founding philosophy: offering the highest artistic standards and challenging programmes in an exclusive setting. From the early days of the Festival to the 2015 season, no less than 2,100 Patrons have joined the Association, or have passed on to subsequent generations the tradition of spending Easter in Salzburg at the Festival.
Besides the aforementioned purchase option for tickets, Patrons enjoy other advantages and get additional privileges such as tickets for the Patrons’ rehearsals, access to the Patrons’ Lounge (the exclusive intermission space on the first floor of the Grosses Festspielhaus), a Patron’s CD or DVD as a gift, special guided tours and free entrance into museums, exhibitions etc.
Different Types of Membership
In addition to individual membership there is the possibility of dual membership. We offer people up to 35 years of age the opportunity to take up membership as a Young Patron. If you would like to express your special commitment to the Salzburg Easter Festival, then we would like to invite you to take up Silver, Gold or Platinum membership, or to become a Donor (this is possible both for private individuals and for companies).
