Christa Mayer studied singing in the Bayerische Singakademie and at the University of Music in Munich. She has sung in the ensemble of the Semperoper Dresden since 2001, where her roles have included Erda (Das Rheingold and Siegfried), Fenena (Nabucco), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Didon (Les Troyens) and Clairon (Capriccio). Further engagements have taken her to the Bavarian State Opera, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Teatro La Fenice and to the Bayreuth Festival, among others. In 2020 the Free State of Saxony awarded her the title of Kammersängerin, and in the same year the State of Bavaria honoured her with the Kulturpreis Bayern. Christa Mayer has appeared at the Salzburg Easter Festival several times since 2014, most recently in 2019 as Magdalene (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg).
