Dear American Friends of the Salzburg Easter Festival,
I would like to introduce myself as the president of the American Friends of the Easter Salzburg Festival. My association with the festival started in 1989, when I first attended and have become a regular supporter ever since.
I would like to take the opportunity to remind you all how unique and incomparable this Festival is, a gem of a festival, to quote Sir Simon Rattle, thanks to the quality of the music, the programs, the orchestra and its conductor, under whose leadership this magical event is possible, and, of course, to all of you, who with your presence year after year turn this into an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind experience.
It will be a pleasure to meet and welcome you in Salzburg.
My kindest regards and heartfelt thanks to all of you.
Sincerely,
Dear American Friends of the Salzburg Easter Festival,
It is with tremendous gratitude that I note the reviving interest and commitment of the American Friends of the Easter Festival. I think we all agree that this festival is unique and offers us a very special opportunity to devote ourselves during the course of a few days to some intense and, we hope, blissful experiences.
The Berlin Philharmonic and I have a very emotional attachment to the Easter Festival. Ever since Herbert von Karajan founded this festival, it has been our second "home", to which we return every year. 2008 marked the 100th anniversary of Karajan's birth and so we feel especially grateful to his memory for having started this wonderful tradition. As he founded this as a privately funded festival, we continue to this day to count on the help of passionate music lovers such as yourselves to enable this tradition to remain vibrant and alive.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your generous support and enthusiasm and I hope that you will find the coming years at the Easter Festival a rewarding experience.
